Solar Electricity

Solar electricity is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. The power of the sun is limitless. The energy from the sun has been harnessed since ancient times. The technologies of today allow us to apply solar energy to many aspects of our lives and to improve the environment. There are two types of solar energy photovoltaic and thermal. Each provides to distinct categories of solar energy which is solar electricity.

Photovoltaic cells grouped together are called an array i.e. solar panel. These panels contain very thin silicon wafers that are sealed under glass. Each panel is connected with electrical wire and in turn all the panels are connected to the system.
Thermal collectors are panels that contain solar tubes that heat water for solar hot water heaters or swimming pools. It is not uncommon to see a combined system for a completely solar structure.

There are also several experimental technologies that continue to explore the converting of sunlight into electricity; solar ponds, solar chimney, solar tower and thermoelectric converters. Finally, renewable energy is not the wave of the future anymore, it is today’s reality. We are learning quickly the benefits of taking care of our planet instead of using it up.

The sun has limitless capabilities as a renewable resource and it offers itself unconditionally for our benefit. The earth would not survive without it and neither would we.
