Solar Tube

Solar tubes can be found in a variety of applications for solar power. Two of the most common uses of a solar tube are solar lights / sky lights and thermal solar power for heating water. Solar lights are a wonderful addition to any home. There are glass domes on the roof; these collect the sun’s energy which then bounces along the reflectors in the tube until they reach the light. The glow enhances the atmosphere and since it’s the suns energy it promotes a positive and uplifting feeling

Solar TubeThese tubes are also completely independent of alternate electrical support which makes them very economical. Most common uses occur in areas where a skylight might not be practical. Important factor; a professional contractor is recommended as a hole has to be cut in the roof as well as the ceiling. This could be costly if not done correctly. Solar skylights work the same way solar lights work only on a larger scale. Conventional skylights mean a large hole in the ceiling and roof, moisture issues, leaks, and heat loss. Solar skylights promote heat gain no leaks and no moisture issues.

Thermal collectors are used to heat liquids like water in solar water heaters. These thermal collectors are made up of solar tubes and are called hot water solar panels. A panel with 20 tubes can heat about 150 liters of water. Most of these panels are located on roofs although ground placement is not unheard of. If the panel is made correctly it can function in very cold weather
